My family helped me up, but by the time I reached the ER, scans confirmed the worst: three broken ribs...
By the time I was a sophomore in college, the verdict landed like a sledgehammer: decades in a maximum security prison for an innocent man. Our family, already fractured by my mother’s alcoholism and abuse, splintered further. “It would have been easier if he had committed the crime,” I whispered to myself, the weight of his innocence crushing me.
Born in India, Sioni immigrated to Costa Rica when she was five years old. Raised in poverty by alcoholic parents, she suffered harsh and frequent physical abuse, but it didn’t compare to the horrors of the sexual abuse that started after toddlerhood.
Faith is a word often used in media, sports and everyday life. People say, “Yes, I did it because I had faith” or “We won the game because we had faith.” But what do they have faith in? It’s one thing to have faith that your chair will hold you when you sit or that your car will start when you turn the key. We need deeper faith.
Today the world is steeped in darkness, filled with stumbling blocks of sin, trouble, and confusion. In times like these, we need to make sure we become like living flashlights, meaning that the light of God's presence is shining in and through us. Romans 12:11 can be summed up this way: Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord.

COVID-19 has negatively impacted people around the globe in various ways. Job losses, income cuts, homelessness, illness and death are just some of the many challenges the pandemic has yielded.

I FOUND MY MENTOR IN A DARK COLOSSEUM when a young woman sat on a stool, inside a bright spotlight. In a voice that sounded like a child in song she said, “Hi, I’m Ann. I am one simple woman in the world. I have never shaken hands with the president. I cry. Sometimes I am insecure. I am only one, but I have come tonight to tell you I am one … and Jesus and I and love are out to change the world.”
In those days, I was a young college student, totally in love with Jesus, and I had never heard anyone articulate my heart the way Ann Kiemel (Anderson) did. She spoke of love and simple acts of kindness, and how she and our big God could change the world. I followed her example with my own acts of love and kindness.
I learned that everything Ann said about living life sold out to the Lord was true. It was true for me. Through Christ, nothing was impossible.
